Please call to make an appointment.
What you need to know
- There are two ways to become a Dutch citizen: through the option procedure or naturalisation. For more information, please visit the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst or IND) website
- During your first appointment with the Service Centre, we will check whether you meet the requirements and provide more information about the next steps in the process
How it works
- If you are eligible to become a Dutch citizen through the option procedure, then your application will be processed by the municipality. The procedure takes around 3 months from the application date
- If you are eligible to become a Dutch citizen through naturalisation, then your application will be processed by the IND. This procedure takes a maximum of 1 year
- If you receive Dutch citizenship following the procedure, then the mayor will invite you to attend the naturalisation ceremony within 6 weeks
- You may request a Dutch travel document 2 days after the naturalisation ceremony. You will also turn in your current residence document at that time
